What follows is a list of books that I either wish to read, have to read, or recently have read.
Some of these will be required for my studies at College, others are just for my own enjoyment and interest.
When a title is bold then I’ve done reading it. Some books may be reviewed and the reviews will be linked. I also plan to provide Amazon (or similar) links for each books if you are keen for more info.
The List:
- You – Michael Jensen: A good read, best for the angle that it approaches the subject from.
- Death By Love – Mark Driscoll: Fantastic book on the cross and its theological and pragmatic implications. I appreciate the love and care that comes off the pages of this book
- Lectures to His Students – H. Spurgeon
- Confessions -Augustine
- The Supremacy of Christ in a Post-modern World – ed. John Piper
- How People Change – Lane/Tripp: So keen to read this.
- Do Hard Things – Alex & Brett Harris: A book by teens for teens, encouraging them to step up. Good book, there is a culture gap between American Christian culture and Australian Christian culture that makes some this book feel a little legalistic, but I see their endeavour to see doing hard things as an outworking of the Gospel changing teens hearts to do hard things. (Their Blog)
- The Reason For God – Tim Keller: I think I’m about 60% done with this, about 6 months ago.
- Hurt – Chap Clark: Got halfway, will need to start again
- Engaging the Soul of Youth Culture -Walt Muller
- Rediscovering Relational Youth Ministry – Root: This book has lots of praise from various quarters, based on incarnational theology, will be interesting to assess.
- Unceasing Worship – Harold Best: Must have started reading this book about 6 times, but since been distracted.
- Christ and Culture Revisited – Don Carson: His lectures on the topic at college were excellent. I look forward to reading the book.
- Your First Two Years in Youth Ministry – Doug Fields: Great book for those working out how to start well in youth ministry, will need to scan through it again and make some further notes and apply to my own situation.
- Everything is Illuminated – Jonathan Safran Foer: A novel given to me by a friend, set in the Ukraine, my roots.
College Books
- Institutes of the Christian Religion – John Calvin: ~ 600 pages over summer break.
- John – Don Carson: NT2
- John – Andreas Kostenberger: NT2
- From Paradise to Promised Land – T.D. Alexander: OT2
- Sealed with an Oath – Paul Williamson: OT2, wrtiten by my lecturer for this subject.
- Deuteronomy – J.G. McConville: OT2
- 1&2 Samuel – Robert Gordon: OT2
- The Last Things – D.G. Bloesch: Doctrine
